This site has been set up to publicise the development of The Other Landscape, a feature based on the classic Scottish novel by Neil Gunn.

The script is initially a Wildcat Films development but we hope to attract a co-producer in the near future. Our aim is to produce a film for both the multiplex and the art house that will challenge as well as entertain. The Other Landscape is a interweaving of two passionate love stories which are also journeys of discovery beyond the here and now and into the deeper mysteries of the universe.

Wildcat Films has an exclusive option on the screen rights and a working draft script is now available. This site allows the script to be downloaded as PDF file.

Set in the Scottish Highlands in the 1950's, The Other Landscape tells the story of Douglas Menzies' search to understand a universe that has brought him almost unbearable tragedy in love. As he nears the end of his quest he is able to impart his insight to the young anthropologist, David Urquhart, who has been sent from London to track him down. Through his own passionate and parallel romance David is able to fulfill Menzies' dream, while Menzies at last finds his beloved wife Anna beyond death.

The Other Landscape is also a detective story and an adventure movie. Shipwrecks, cliff rescues, fires and a suspected murder provide the action, while Gunn's genius for character ensures that tragedy is always leavened by raw human comedy. Initial reviews of the draft script have confirmed the screenwriters' own belief Gunn's powerful vision and imagination is an ideal inspiration for a unique and extraordinary piece of cinema. At its heart The Other Landscape is an epic love story. But this is a love story that also confronts head on the big questions of what lies beyond death and what is the purpose of destruction in a creative universe.

Browsing this site will reveal that others share our belief that The Other Landscape has all the necessary ingredients for a cinema classic. It is a movie for the new millennium. To bring the unique power and vision of Neil Gunn to the big screen will not be easy. We therefore hope this site will serve as a focus to attract development finance and initial casting to the project.
